My Craft Resolutions for 2012!

Hard to believe that 2011 has come and gone! With a brand new year now at hand, I've resolved to accomplish a few things in 2012. First, knit knit knit for my children! And on the business side, TrickyKnits currently focuses on chunky knitwear designs for newborns, but since my own last “newborn” is now 2 years old, I’d like to focus on growing my pattern collection to include toddler (and larger) sizes, as well as adding new designs for toddlers and older children. I have 7 of my own models ranging from 2 to 14 – might as well use them! Let's see...write another book. Oh, yeah, and blog more than semi-annually.

As you can see, I'm not much for updating too many different "social media" hangouts. Maybe one day! I do, however, post very frequently to the TrickyKnits Facebook page, and I've been known to tweet now and then. Please considering hopping over to one of those sites and saying Hello!

Knit it chunky in 2012!

Publishers Weekly reviews "Welcoming Home Baby the Handcrafted Way"

Now, this was a nice surprise. This is an example of what my dad just told me was "The Real Deal" - a very flattering review of my book by Publishers Weekly that just appeared this past Monday the 14th. Yippee!

Only so many hours in a day...

I would love to have the time and patience to blog...I mean really blog, like real bloggers do. Bloggers that take beautiful photos of their children doing lovely things like planting bulbs, or making pancakes...then blog about them. Or bloggers that take the time to knit a beautiful pair of slippers for themselves - or better, for someone else - and document their progress with exquisite photographs for us all to admire... But I'm not one of those bloggers, and from where I'm standing right now (amidst a stack of unknit orders to attend, 7 children needing snacks/homework help/naps/baths/band-aids, a big box of my books to sign and send - FORGET the knee-deep laundry, and all-around controlled chaos a household of 9 sans nanny certainly is) - there just isn't ever going to be a time when I'm one of those bloggers. *Sigh.* But, chin up! Blog or no blog - I'm having a great time doing what I'm doing and will just keep posting things when I can!

A nice shout out for my Criss-Cross Hats from French Press Knits! This pattern is included in my book, "Welcoming Home Baby the Handcrafted Way" that came out March 12.

French Press Knits: Ravelry Roundup 3/16/11: "Wow! Maybe it's just because I started looking more, but there were so many great patterns released on Ravelry this week and I am beyo..."

Later, Gator!

Hello gentle followers! Time to post a sneak peek of a pattern from my book ("Welcoming Home Baby the Handcrafted Way").

For the first time in view of the blogosphere - here is the Later Gator Blanket, lovingly plopped upon by my Jeannie.

Headnotes from the book...

“See you later, alligator!” Now, there’s a cute animal rhyme that we’ve all heard countless times, but probably have never seen on a baby blanket - which is exactly why I thought it would be so cute. This snappy little treasure is sure to “wow” the new parents. I’ve knit it with a double-strand of the softest organic cotton, making it the perfect weight for snuggling in any season. This blanket is a bit more time-consuming because of the embroidery, but so worth the extra effort for the years of crocodile smiles it will bring."

Party on Your Head!

Well, since I have a book coming out, I guess that means I'm supposed to start spreading the word - slowly building my own little merry band of followers who will hang on my every breath. (Right). I'm not one for evangelism, but heck - if I had to pick one thing to stir up a crowd about, why the heck not my knitting book? So, to my tiny (make that "teeeeeny") list of hearty followers who have been visiting this dry well for months, it's showtime! I'll be posting very frequently (OK, maybe not every day - I do have 7 young children pawing at me), but...frequently. Like tomorrow for sure.

Gotta go knit and list my new stuff on my Etsy shop!
